Adaptive Reuse of Buildings -- Central to the Vision

Consistent with the Waterfront Futures Group Vision Framework Plan (10,100K PDF), the Port's vision for waterfront redevelopment originally incorporated the sustainable practice of adaptive reuse of historic buildings.  As recently as August, 2007 the Port was advocating adaptive reuse of buildings in the waterfront development plans (see Collins Woerman powerpoint August 2007).

However, the most recent concept of the Port's Preferred Alternative Plan for development of Bellingham's historic working waterfront suggests demolition of the Granary building, and through realignment of the street grid in the former Georgia-Pacific mill district area, by default demolition of all remaining historic brick buildings.
