Removal of existing historic buildings and structures is
inconsistent with the Waterfront Futures Vision & Framework Plan (9,900K pdf),
which establishes Guiding Principles and Recommendations for future development
of the Waterfront District. The following are excerpts from the Plan
relevant to the adaptive reuse of the Granary and Mill Buildings:
Promote a Healthy & Dynamic Waterfront Economy
- Create new mixed-use areas on the waterfront for commercial, industrial,
educational, recreational and residential uses, and encourage reuse and
renovation of existing buildings
- Require sustainable practices in all
development
- Help people find their way
Reinforce the Inherent Qualities of Each Place on the Waterfront
- Respect history, cultures and the arts: embrace, include and expand
knowledge of our
peoples and their cultural heritage
- Reinforce a
unique “sense of place” at different waterfront locations
- Complement adjacent uses -- create an urban mixed-use neighborhood
that will complement downtown
