Goal 3.  Economic feasibility of adaptive reuse options for the Granary and GP Mill Buildings will be thoroughly researched by Port and City officials.

The Port’s current Draft Preferred Alternative for the Waterfront suggests demolition of the Granary Building to provide for an access road into the site.  It also shifts the street grid, which would necessitate demolition of the historic Mill Buildings.  Historic Bellingham asks that the Port and City conduct feasibility studies to compare costs to rehabilitate existing buildings against costs to build new.  We also ask that officials collaborate with developers, investors, architects and engineers that are experienced in adaptive reuse of buildings like the Granary and Mill Buildings.
